E-Distribuţie Dobrogea invests 1.6 million lei in the extension of the electricity grid in Poarta Alba commune, for the benefit of 460 consumers

Bucharest, December 13, 2021 - E-Distribuţie Dobrogea, the electricity distribution operator part of the Enel Group, completed the works of extension of the electricity grid in Poarta Albă locality, Constanța county, by approximately 12 kilometers. It is the largest work of its kind in 2021, following which 460 consumers have access to electricity.

  • The inhabitants of Poarta Albă, Constanța County, benefit from almost 12 new kilometers of electricity grid, the route of the medium and low voltage lines being underground.
  • In total, by the end of this year, E-Distribuţie Dobrogea will expand by approximately 100 kilometers the electricity grid in the four counties in which it operates, to reach over 24,770 kilometers.

The investment of the distribution operator amounts to over 1.6 million lei, together with the costs borne by the Poarta Albă Mayor’s Office, according to the legislative provisions elaborated by the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). During this year, E-Distribuţie Dobrogea had similar works in place to expand the grid in three other localities in Constanța County, more precisely in Năvodari, Cumpăna and Lazu.

Following the investment, the medium voltage lines were extended by over 2.4 kilometers, and the low voltage lines by approximately 9.2 kilometers, the route of the grid being an underground one. The works took place over two years and involved the installation of two transformer stations in the telecontrol system and 176 distribution boxes. The project serves the 459 new lots in the North-East area of Poarta Albă.

"For electricity to reach people, smart grids are needed. Therefore, we come to the aid of local communities in the areas where we operate not only by expanding the energy grid, but also by digitalizing it. The works at Poarta Albă involved the installation of medium and low voltage lines underground, for greater security in the energy supply of homes, as well as transformer stations equipped with telecommunications equipment that allow fast, remote interventions, in case of grid failures ", said Mihai Știrbulescu, director of E-Distribuţie Dobrogea.

In Dobrogea, E-Distribuţie has planned investments of 185 million lei in 2021, in the modernization and digitalization of electricity grids, including through the installation of smart meters. The value of this year's modernization and maintenance programs of the electricity grid is in addition to the investments of 1.5 billion lei, made in total by E-Distribuţie Dobrogea between 2006 - 2020.

In total, E-Distribution companies will invest in 2021 approximately 940 million lei in Romania, the equivalent of 191 million euros, in modernizing, digitalizing and expanding the electricity grid in Bucharest and the ten counties in the country where they operate.

The electrical grids operated by the three E-Distribution companies account for over 131,000 kilometers, 286 transformer stations and 23,575 transformer substations. In 2020, they distributed over 15.3 TWh of electricity, through high, medium and low voltage power lines.
