Environmental Safety

We firmly believe that environmental safety is the duty of each and every one of us, so that an environmental-friendly approach is not an option, but an obligation we commit to, by making sure we do not affect the environmental factors in the areas where we provide the electricity distribution service. Moreover, we collaborate with non-profit organizations that share our concern for nature.

Environmental safety is an important component of all processes carried out in our companies, based on the principles of the circular economy, so that, starting the very design stage, we take into account the use of modern equipment, of new, pollution-free techniques, with a low environmental impact.

We identify the environmental aspects, we evaluate the risks and impacts associated with them and the compliance obligations. We design and implement measures to reduce the impact. We manage the waste generated by investment and maintenance works, in accordance with the environmental laws and the European directives in the field.

Environmental Management has been implemented and certified in our companies ever since 2004. Environmental management currently is part of the Quality-Environment - Occupational Health and Safety Integrated Management System. The implementation in 2017 of the Energy Management lays the grounds for the continuous improvement of the organizational energetic performance, in close relation with resource consumption and the mitigation of the environmental impact - see certifications.

We take pride in the good practices we follow, such as, for instance, the continuous monitoring of environmental factors, which will allow us to take targeted preventive and proactive measures, whenever required.

Our Environmental-Friendly Projects

Over the past years, we have deployed specific projects meant to protect the environment, the biodiversity, as well as to modernize/build concrete-cast platforms for the temporary storage of equipment and waste, the modernization of the storage tanks for the substations, the replacement of overhead lines with underground cables, the replacement of classical conductor cables with twisted concrete cables, the mounting of electrically insulating shields on the medium and high voltage lines, the adoption of bird-friendly crowns for medium voltage poles, as well as the installation of special brackets (nests) on the low and high voltage lines in order to protect them.

We are actively committed to protecting the flora, fauna and the ecosystems, so that we have deployed and we still deploy projects in this respect, mainly the protection of birds on the IUCN Red List (common stork of Europe, European Roller, Saker Falcon), the preservation of the natural environment in Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-protected area on the territory of Romania. We are partners of DANUBEparksCONNECTED. We volunteered in the Citizen science project of Văcărești Natural Park, for the monitoring of the birds in that habitat, as well as within the projects for the planting of trees, e.g., in Comana Forest (Ilfov) or Valea Dacilor Forest (Constanța).

A project recently developed in partnership with NGOs for the protection of the Saker Falcon is: for the first time in Romania, we have mounted webcam broadcasting LIVE online in a Saker Falcon nest, installed by us on a medium voltage pole in Timiș County. Watch the falcon here.
